Rashaad Newsome was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1979. He went to Tulane University and received a BFA in Art history.  I addition to this, Newsome also studied digital post-production and programming. Newsome creates art using a variety of mediums, including film, collage, sculpture, and performance.

His work is heavily influenced by pop culture and sends off a deep social message about said pop culture and mainstream ideas. His abstract work is a shout out to Black and Queer communities.

Performance Art

The first impression I had of Newsome’s art, was that it reminded me of a kaleidoscope. It seems very scattered at first glance, but makes sense when you take a minute to really look at it. It was so interesting to read about the diverse different ways Newsome would portray his art. Performance art really stood out to me in particular since it was so unique. It was really interesting to read that he also uses sound as a form of art.

Overall his art is very unique and pleasing to look at, and listen to. I look forward to what he has in store for the future.
